Matthias Sellmann, born in 1966, studied Catholic theology and social sciences in Paderborn and Bonn. He earned a doctorate in theology and worked from 1998 to 2009 as a policy adviser and deputy director of the Catholic Social Ethics Office of the German Bishops’ Conference in Hamm. From 2009 onward, he taught pastoral theology at Ruhr University Bochum, initially as a junior professor and later as a professor. He founded and directed the university’s Centre for Applied Pastoral Research (zap).
