Matthew Desmond (born 1979) is a sociologist and author. As a professor at Princeton University, he spent years researching the lives of families affected by poverty and personally accompanied some of them. These experiences informed his book “Evicted,” which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2017. His later book “Armut,” which examines poverty in a broader social context, reached number one on The New York Times bestseller list.
