Martin Wikelski

Martin Wikelski was director at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior in Radolfzell and an honorary professor at the University of Konstanz. Earlier, he taught at Princeton University and the University of Illinois and conducted research at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. His work focused on global animal migrations, and with ICARUS he pioneered a system for continuously observing animals from space. Wikelski received, among other honors, the Niko Tinbergen Prize, the Bartholomew Award and the Max Planck Research Award. He was elected a member of the Leopoldina in 2014 and received the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg in 2021.
