Martin Dornes

Martin Dornes (1950–2021) was a German sociologist and psychoanalyst. He earned a doctorate in sociology and completed his habilitation in psychoanalytic psychology. He worked in psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine, sexual medicine, and medical psychology. From 2002 to 2014, he was a member of the governing board of the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research. His best-known books include *The Competent Infant*, *The Emotional World of the Child*, *The Modernization of the Soul: Child, Family, Society*, and *Does Capitalism Make Us Depressed?*
