Martin Becker

Martin Becker was born in 1982 and grew up in Plettenberg in the Sauerland region of Germany. He worked as a freelance author for public broadcasting, as a literary critic for Deutschlandfunk and Deutschlandradio Kultur, and as a reporter for radio features and documentaries. His publications include the award-winning story collection »Ein schönes Leben« (2007), the novels »Der Rest der Nacht« (2014), »Marschmusik« (2017) and »Kleinstadtfarben« (2021), and »Warten auf Kafka. Eine literarische Seelenkunde Tschechiens« (2019). Together with Martina Lisa, he edited the anthology »Die letzte Metro. Junge Literatur aus Tschechien«. Becker also created radio plays and readings with Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš. In 2016, he and Tabea Soergel received the German-Czech Journalists’ Award; in 2024, he was awarded the Margarete Schrader Prize for Literature.
