Markus Stockhausen

Markus Stockhausen is a trumpeter and composer. From 1975 to 2001, he worked closely with his father, composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, who wrote numerous works for him. As a soloist, he appeared in musical-dramatic works from the „LICHT“ cycle at venues including La Scala in Milan and the Royal Opera in London. Stockhausen composed works for, among others, the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta, the Metropole Orkest and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, he received the WDR Jazz Prize for best improviser; in 2017, he was awarded the Silver Tuning Fork of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Music Council and the JTI Jazz Award. He released more than 80 CDs over approximately 40 years of musical work. His first book collects his own, partly personal texts.
