Marko Martin (born 1970 in Burgstädt, Saxony) is a German writer and essayist. As a conscientious objector, he left East Germany and moved to West Germany in 1989. He studied German, political science and history and spent several years in Paris. His books include the novel »Der Prinz von Berlin«, the story collections »Schlafende Hunde« and »Die Nacht von San Salvador«, and the essay collection »Dissidentisches Denken«. For »Das Haus in Habana. Ein Rapport«, he was shortlisted for an essay prize of the Leipzig Book Fair in 2019. In 2025 he received the Ovid Prize of the PEN Centre of German-Speaking Authors Abroad, followed by the Werner Schulz Prize in 2026. Since childhood, Martin has been an avid admirer of the sea and of Jules Verne.
