Mark Siemons was born in Mainz in 1959 and studied history, philosophy and art history in Bonn and Cologne. From 1987, he worked in the features department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung; from 2005 to 2014, he reported from China as the newspaper’s features correspondent. His publications include “Jenseits des Aktenkoffers. Vom Wesen des neuen Angestellten” (1997) and “Die chinesische Verunsicherung. Stichworte zu einem nervösen System” (2017). In 2001, Siemons received the Erik Reger Prize for outstanding writing on the modern world of work and everyday life.
