Mario Plachutta was born in Vienna in 1968 and completed his professional training and traveling years in Canada, France, and Hong Kong. In 1993, he founded Mario Plachutta GmbH and opened several restaurants in Vienna, including Plachutta Wollzeile, Plachutta Nussdorf, Grünspan, Mario, and Gasthaus zur Oper. In 2006, he was named Restaurateur of the Year.
