Maria Hoffmann-Dartevelle, born in 1957 in Bad Godesberg, studied Romance languages and literature and history in Heidelberg and Paris. From 1985 onward, she worked as a freelance translator from French and Spanish. In addition to nonfiction and children’s literature, she translated novels, essays, a radio play, and song lyrics by authors including René Crevel, Daniel de Roulet, César Aira, and Elena Poniatowska. She wrote the German-French children’s crime novel “Abenteuer am See” in 2011, followed by the novel “Über den Ozean” in 2022.
