Marguerite Andersen was born in Magdeburg in 1924. After the Second World War, she lived in Tunisia, the United States and Ethiopia before immigrating to Canada. She earned a doctorate in French literature in Montreal and taught at several universities. Andersen published numerous works in a range of genres, worked as an editor of the literary magazine Virages, and was active as a pacifist. Her literary work received numerous awards.
