Margarete Zimmermann is a scholar of Romance languages and literature, translator, and literary scholar. She was Professor of Comparative and French Literary Studies at the France Centre of Freie Universität Berlin, which she directed from 2008 to 2014. Her research has focused on Christine de Pizan; French literature and culture during the interwar period and the German occupation; contemporary French-language literature; intermediality; literary historiography; historical gender studies; and cultural transfer. Among her editorial projects are the anthology »Ach, wie gût schmeckt mir Berlin. Passanten im Berlin der 20er und frühen 30er Jahre« (2010) and the collection »Après le Mur. Berlin dans la littérature francophone« (2014).
