Margaret Kennedy (1896–1967) was born in London and died in Adderbury. She studied at Somerville College, Oxford, and worked as a novelist and non-fiction writer. Her second novel, *The Constant Nymph* (1924), became an international bestseller and was adapted for the screen several times. Kennedy published fifteen further novels and adapted some of her works for the stage herself. Her non-fiction included a biography of Jane Austen. She had three children; one daughter and one granddaughter also became writers.
