Marcel Beyer, born in 1965 in Tailfingen, Württemberg, is a German writer. From 1987 to 1991 he studied German and English literature at the University of Siegen, completing an MA thesis on Friederike Mayröcker in 1992. His bibliography includes novels, short stories, essays and poetry, as well as libretti and collaborative projects with visual artists. He became known in particular for the novels Das Menschenfleisch (1991) and Flughunde (1995). His awards include the Joseph Breitbach Prize (2008), the Kleist Prize (2014) and the Georg Büchner Prize (2016). He also edited several volumes of works by Friederike Mayröcker.
