Marc Elsberg was born in Vienna in 1967. Before becoming an author, he worked as a strategy consultant and creative director in advertising in Vienna and Hamburg, and as a columnist for the Austrian daily newspaper Der Standard. He became known internationally for science thrillers such as Blackout and Zero. Both novels were named Knowledge Book of the Year in the Entertainment category by bild der wissenschaft.
