Manfred Pfister

Manfred Pfister (born 1943 in Landshut) is a German scholar of English literature. He taught at the University of Passau and at Freie Universität Berlin, where he was a professor until 2008. His main areas of research include drama theory, intertextuality, and intercultural genres such as travel writing and translation. He published works on authors including William Shakespeare, Laurence Sterne, and Oscar Wilde, and co-edited a history of English literature. He also worked as a translator and editor of writings by Ezra Pound, Robert Lowell, and Sir Thomas Browne.
