Luise Berg-Ehlers was born in Lüneburg and studied German, theology, theatre studies and journalism in Hamburg and Bochum. She received her doctorate with a dissertation on Theodor Fontane and worked in education for 40 years. As an author and editor, she published numerous books and essays on German and English literature, including Mit Miss Marple aufs Land, England und die Detektive and Theodor Fontanes Traumorte. Berg-Ehlers was a founding member of the Theodor Fontane Society in Potsdam and served as its deputy chair for several years.
