Louis Althusser

Louis Althusser (1918–1990) was a Marxist theorist and professor of philosophy at the École normale supérieure in Paris. He taught there from 1945 onward; his students included Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Pierre Bourdieu, Jacques Rancière, and Étienne Balibar. His major works include *For Marx* (*Pour Marx*) and *Reading Capital* (*Lire le Capital*), written with Étienne Balibar and others.
