Lothar Frenz (born 1964) worked as a biologist and journalist, including for GEO magazine, and wrote scripts for nature documentaries produced for ZDF, NDR and Arte. His work focused on biodiversity and took him on expeditions to Amazonia, New Guinea, Tasmania, Uganda and Mongolia. His books include Riesenkraken und Tigerwölfe, Das Naturbuch für Neugierige, co-authored with Loki Schmidt, and Lonesome George oder Das Verschwinden der Arten. The latter received the German Environmental Book of the Year award.
