Leonid Wladimirski (1920–2015) was a Russian graphic artist and illustrator. After the Second World War, he studied animation at the Institute of Cinematography, completing the course with distinction in 1951. In 1953, he illustrated Alexei Tolstoy’s children’s book Buratino, or The Golden Key. He became particularly well known for his illustrations for Alexander Volkov’s six fairy-tale stories about The Wizard of the Emerald City and their subsequent volumes. He also drew more than ten animated films for children. In 1974, he was awarded the title Honored Artist of the Soviet Union.
