Leon Schalit (1884–1950) was a journalist and translator born in Vienna. He made a significant contribution to the reception of the British writer John Galsworthy in the German-speaking world. He frequently stayed in England for study and fled there from National Socialism in 1938, receiving support from Galsworthy’s widow. Schalit served on the boards of the Austrian PEN and later the Exile PEN in London.
