Laotse Laozi

Laozi, also known as Laotse, is an honorific title meaning “Old Master.” The historical person behind the name is not definitively established; more recent research places him around the 4th century BCE. Tradition traditionally attributes the work Tao Te Ching (Daodejing) to Laozi. According to legend, he was a widely respected scholar and archivist at the Zhou royal court and wrote the work while withdrawing through the western mountains.
