Klaus-Dietmar Henke

Klaus-Dietmar Henke, born in 1947, is a contemporary historian. He studied modern history and political science in Munich and worked at the Institute of Contemporary History in Munich from 1979 to 1992, serving as deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte from 1986. From 1992 to 1996, he headed the Education and Research Division of the Federal Commissioner for the Stasi Records. Henke was Professor of Contemporary History at TU Dresden from 1997 to 2012 and, until 2002, also director of the Hannah Arendt Institute for the Research on Totalitarianism. From 2011 to 2022, he served as spokesperson for the Independent Historians’ Commission investigating the history of the BND. He has published numerous works on twentieth-century German history.
