Khaled Khalifa

Khaled Khalifa (1964–2023) was a Syrian writer and screenwriter. Born in Aleppo, he studied law at the University of Aleppo. Khalifa co-founded and co-edited the literary magazine Alif and was a member of the Literary Forum established at the university. He wrote numerous novels and screenplays for feature films. He was nominated for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction and the National Book Award, and received the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature.
