Karl-Ludwig Wetzig (born 1956 in Düsseldorf) studied German and Scandinavian studies in Bonn and Uppsala. From 1992 to 1998, he was a lecturer at the University of Reykjavík; earlier and alongside this work, he worked as a tour guide. Wetzig published travel books and illustrated books and translated literature from Nordic languages into German, including works by Jón Kalman Stefánsson, Gunnar Gunnarsson, Hallgrímur Helgason, Johan Bargum and others. His own books include Mein Island (2017). In 2023, he received the Christoph Martin Wieland Prize for Translators for his translation of Jón Kalman Stefánsson’s Dein Fortsein ist Finsternis.
