Karen Blixen

Karen Blixen (1885–1962) was a Danish writer. After studying art, she published her first short stories in 1907 under the pseudonym “Osceola.” From 1914 to 1931, she lived in Kenya, where she ran a coffee plantation with her husband. After returning to Denmark, she devoted herself to writing. Among her best-known works is the autobiographical account “Out of Africa” (1937), which was adapted into a film in 1985. She also published under the pseudonyms “Isak Dinesen” and “Tania Blixen.” Blixen died in 1962 at Rungstedlund near Copenhagen.
