Kaori Yuki is a Japanese manga artist. She made her debut in 1987 with “Natsufuku no Ally,” which reached the semifinals of a talent competition held by the manga magazine “Hana to Yume.” She initially published numerous fantasy short stories in the magazine, later collected in volumes including “Kaine,” “Zankoku na Douwa-tachi,” and “Sareki Oukoku.” She became particularly known for “Count Cain,” a horror and mystery series set in Victorian London, which was later continued under the title “God Child” and concluded in 13 volumes. Her best-known long-form work is “Angel Sanctuary,” completed in 2000 after 20 volumes. Other works include “Ludwig Revolution” and various short stories. Yuki’s work is characterized by a detailed, dark style and influences from Gothic culture, film, and music. She stated that the character Kira in “Angel Sanctuary” was named in reference to a singer from the Japanese group ZABADAK.
