Julien Green

Julien Green (1900–1998) was an American writer born in Paris. The son of American parents, he grew up bilingual and spent most of his life in France. His best-known works include the novels *Leviathan* and *Adrienne Mesurat*, as well as *Brother Francis*. His psychologically focused, often dark fiction explored themes including death and violence. In the 1970s, Green was elected to the Académie française. He died in Paris in 1998.
