Jorge Amado

Jorge Amado (1912–2001) was a Brazilian writer. He was born in the state of Bahia and grew up in the port city of Ilhéus. He began writing short stories as a teenager, worked for a newspaper, and published his first novel at the age of 18. Amado wrote more than 35 books, which have been translated into over 40 languages. He died in Salvador da Bahia in 2001.
