Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758) was an American Congregationalist preacher, pastor, theologian, and missionary. He was a leading figure in the First Great Awakening and is regarded as one of the most important American theologians. He is known, among other works, for the sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” His work “History of the Work of Redemption,” based on a series of sermons delivered in 1739, presents an influential approach to theology of history. Shortly before his death, Edwards served as president of the College of New Jersey, later Princeton University.
