Johann Hinrich Claussen, born in Hamburg in 1964, studied Protestant theology in Tübingen, Hamburg and London. He received his doctorate in 1997 and completed his habilitation in 2004. From 1997 to 2001, he served as a parish pastor in Reinbek near Hamburg. He subsequently taught systematic theology as a private lecturer at the University of Hamburg. From 2004 to 2016, he was senior pastor at St. Nikolai Church in Hamburg and provost of the Hamburg-Ost church district. In 2016, he took up the position of cultural representative of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany; in 2019, he became an honorary professor at Humboldt University of Berlin. Claussen writes for newspapers and magazines and has published numerous books, including “Gottes Häuser,” “Gottes Klänge” and “Das Buch der Flucht.”
