Joan Sales

Joan Sales (1912–1983) was a writer, poet, and translator. He initially sympathized with communism and fought on the anarchist side in the Spanish Civil War, but later aligned himself with Catalan nationalists. In 1939 he went into exile in France, moving to Haiti in 1940 and Mexico in 1942. His novel “Flüchtiger Glanz,” about the Spanish Civil War, is regarded as a classic of Catalan literature. It was first published in 1956 under Franco in a heavily censored edition.
