Joan E. Biren, also known as JEB, was born in Washington in 1944. She is a feminist photographer and filmmaker whose work explores the lives of LGBTQIA* people and themes including healthcare, hurricane relief, womyn’s music, and antiracism. Biren was a friend of the writer and activist Audre Lorde and photographed her on several occasions.
