Jean Renoir

Jean Renoir (1894–1979) was a French film director, screenwriter, and author. He was born in Paris and died in Beverly Hills. Before entering the film industry, he worked as a ceramicist. He became internationally known especially for the films *Grand Illusion* (*La grande illusion*) and *The Rules of the Game* (*La règle du jeu*). Renoir was the son of the painter Auguste Renoir and wrote memoirs about his filmmaking as well as a book about his father.
