J.C. Maetis is the pseudonym of British thriller author John Matthews. According to publisher information, his books have sold more than 1.6 million copies and been translated into 14 languages. The pseudonym derives from the name of his father’s Jewish family, which left Lithuania for London in 1919 because of anti-Jewish pogroms. Many members of the extended family were killed during the German invasion of Lithuania in 1941, and Matthews commemorated them in one of his novels.
