Janosch, born Horst Eckert in 1931 in Hindenburg, Upper Silesia (now Zabrze, Poland), was a German author, illustrator and artist. He became best known for his children’s books, including »Oh, wie schön ist Panama« (1978), »Post für den Tiger« (1980), and stories featuring characters such as Little Tiger, Little Bear and the Tiger Duck. His books appeared in several languages and sold millions of copies. Janosch published more than 150 books and received numerous awards, including the German Youth Literature Prize in 1979 for »Oh, wie schön ist Panama« and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1993. From 2013 to 2019, he contributed the »Wondrak« column to »ZEITmagazin«.
