Jana Frey was born in Düsseldorf in 1969. After attending school in Wiesbaden, she studied literature, art and history in Frankfurt, San Francisco and Auckland. Her first young adult novel was published in 1994. She went on to publish numerous books for children and young adults, which have been translated into more than 20 languages. Her novel *Höhenflug abwärts* was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize. Frey is the mother of four children.
