Jan von Holleben was born in 1977 and grew up in southern Germany. He received his first camera at the age of 13. He studied special needs education in Freiburg and later the history and theory of photography at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in England. In London, he worked as a picture editor, art director and photographic director, and founded several photography organisations. His staged, playful photographs appeared in publications including Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, GEO and the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine, and were exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood in London and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. His numerous children’s books have been translated into 17 languages.
