James Lovelock

James Lovelock (1919–2022) was a scientist, inventor and author. He was best known as the originator of the Gaia theory, which describes Earth as a self-regulating system. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and received numerous environmental awards, including Japan’s Blue Planet Prize and the Amsterdam Prize for the Environment from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Lovelock held more than 50 patents and published over 200 papers on medicine, biology and geophysiology. Two of his inventions were sent to Mars, and asteroid 51663 was named after him.
