James Clavell

James Clavell was born in Sydney in 1921 and grew up in several Commonwealth countries. At the age of 16, he joined the British Army and was taken prisoner by the Japanese during the Second World War. After the war, he worked as a film producer and wrote historical novels about Asian history. His best-known works include the 1975 novel Shōgun. Clavell died in Switzerland in 1994.
