James Allen (1864–1912) was a British writer associated with the New Thought movement. He is regarded as a pioneer of self-help and personal-development literature. Born in Leicester, he initially worked in positions including factory employment and private secretary before devoting himself to writing. His works include From Poverty to Power and The Life Triumphant. He is best known for As a Man Thinketh, a book about the influence of thought on a person’s life that gained international recognition, particularly after his death.
