Jacques Decour

Jacques Decour (1910–1942) was a French writer and a member of the intellectual resistance in the French Résistance. He abandoned his law studies to train as a teacher of German and worked as an exchange teacher in Magdeburg in 1930–31. He drew on his experiences in Germany for his first book, “Philisterburg.” During the German occupation, Decour became involved in literary resistance and helped found the journal “Les Lettres françaises.” He also led the Comité national des écrivains, a central organization of the literary resistance. Arrested by the Gestapo in 1942, he was executed that year.
