Jacqueline Woodson

Jacqueline Woodson (born 1963 in Ohio) is an American author. She writes primarily children’s and young adult books, as well as novels for adults. Among her best-known works is “Brown Girl Dreaming,” which received the National Book Award in 2014. She was awarded the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2018 and the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2020. Her novel “Another Brooklyn” was shortlisted for the National Book Award. Woodson’s books address themes including African American history, identity, gender, and social class. In 2018, she was appointed the U.S. National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress.
