Ilja Bohnet holds a doctorate in physics. From the mid-1990s, he worked at the German Electron Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg and Zeuthen. In 2012, he moved to the Berlin office of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, where he served as an officer for basic research involving large-scale research facilities. Alongside his scientific career, he published crime novels, short stories, and nonfiction. His literary work has received several awards; in 2019, he won the Wunderwasser Crime Prize for the short story “Nur ein Kratzer.” His popular-science book “Die 42 größten Rätsel der Physik” was published in 2020.
