Hugh Johnson

Hugh Johnson (born 1939 in London) is a British wine writer and journalist. He studied English at King’s College, Cambridge, and initially worked as an editor for Vogue and House & Garden. He later served, among other roles, as wine correspondent for The Sunday Times, editor of Queen, and a member of the Wine and Food Society. His writing career began with his first book, Wine (1966). He became internationally known for The World Atlas of Wine (1971), later revised with Jancis Robinson. His other standard works include The Little Johnson, first published in 1978, and The Great Johnson. His wine publications received several honors, including the Académie de Bordeaux literary prize in 1987 and the Carl Friedrich von Rumohr Ring in 1998.
