Howard Marks

Howard Marks (1945–2016) was a British author and former drug smuggler. He studied physics at Oxford and began dealing in hashish during his student years, later becoming active internationally. He was arrested in Spain in 1988 and extradited to the United States; he was released from prison early in 1995. He subsequently published the autobiographical books “Mr Nice” and “Mr Smiley.” His unusual past as a smuggler shaped his writing.
