Holly Smale studied English literature and feminism at the University of Bristol. Before becoming known as an author, she worked as a model and taught children in Japan. She achieved international success with the young adult series about Harriet, known as “Geek Girl”. The series was translated into 30 languages and sold more than three million copies worldwide. Smale’s novels for young readers became bestsellers in England and received awards including the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the Leeds Book Award. “Mein schrecklich schönes Leben” was her first novel for adults.
