Holger Teschke

Holger Teschke, born in 1958 in Bergen auf Rügen, worked as a mechanic on fishing boats until 1980 after completing secondary school. From 1981 to 1985 he studied theatre directing in Berlin and subsequently worked as a director, dramaturg and author, including at the Berliner Ensemble. He also worked as a director and directing teacher in the United States, Australia and Southeast Asia, and taught theatre history and dramaturgy. Teschke wrote plays, radio dramas, travel books, essays and poetry. His publications include the poetry collections “Bäume am Hochufer” (1985) and “Jasmunder Felder / Windschlucht New York” (1991), as well as books about Rügen and Hiddensee. His work received, among other distinctions, the Critics’ Prize of the Berliner Zeitung, the Pablo Neruda Prize and the Cultural Prize of the Rügen Cultural Foundation.
