Hermann Ranke

Hermann Ranke (1878–1953) was a German Egyptologist. He studied theology, Egyptology, and Oriental languages in Greifswald and Munich, subsequently earning a doctorate and habilitation. In Heidelberg, he founded the Institute of Egyptology. Ranke took part in numerous excavations, including the expedition to Tell el-Amarna, where the famous bust of Queen Nefertiti was discovered.
