Henry Rider Haggard (1856–1925) was a British writer and a prominent representative of the English adventure novel of the 19th century. From 1875, he worked in the British colonial service in South Africa, returning to England in 1881, where he passed his legal examinations and continued working for the government. He is best known for the novel “King Solomon’s Mines” and for creating the adventurer Allan Quatermain. His experiences in Africa influenced many of his adventure novels.
